  • What is a Microgrid?

    Microgrids, otherwise known as Smart Micro Grids, are complete miniaturized electric systems that make full use of digital meter technologies (Smart Meter) and intelligent technologies. The fundamental elements to consider are: Electricity generation (renewable and distributed energy, and also traditional); loads (residential, commercial, industrial users); accumulation systems (even if not always present) and an electric network (mainly in low voltage) that connects the various elements of them and with the medium voltage Macro Grid. 


    These networks are locally governed and can operate independently in "electric island" or in combination with the main grid of the area - Macro Grid.


    The European electricity system as a whole consists of: 

    • Macro Grid : perform a public function, regardless of the nature of their property. They consist of high and very high voltage systems, but also medium and low voltage with AC / DC technologies and provide public services according to the quality and reliability standard parameters (PQR); 
    • Micro Grid , connected topologically with Macro Grids and providing PQR (Power Quality and Realibility) services based on the real needs of the customer / user. "
  • What is a dimensions of Microgrid?

    Dimensions can be defined by generation capacity, peak load, served customers or geographic coverage. For these microgrids there is no specific dimension; some generate energy in the kilowatt range, while others are more than 100 MW.

  • What is a Virtual Power Plant?

    A virtual power plant is a pool of several small - and medium scale  installations, either consuming or producing electricity. In a Virtual Power Plant, decentralized units in a power network are linked and operated by a single, centralized control system. When integrated into a Virtual Power Plant, the power and flexibility of the aggregated assets can be traded collectively. Any decentralized unit that consumes, stores, or produces electricity can become a part of a Virtual Power Plant.
