 What is a microgrid?

If we want a livable climate for future generations, we must slow down, stop and reverse the rise in global temperatures. To do so, we need to generate a lot of electricity without carbon emissions and get the largest possible number of energy uses (including industry and transport) connected to the electricity grid. We need a greener grid. 

The highly digital modern world also requires a more reliable network, capable of providing high quality energy to facilities such as hospitals or data centers, where even short voltage drops can cost lives or money. We need a greener more reliable, more resilient electricity grid.

  • What is a Microgrid?

    Microgrids, otherwise known as Smart Micro Grids, are complete miniaturized electric systems that make full use of digital meter technologies (Smart Meter) and intelligent technologies. The fundamental elements to consider are: Electricity generation (renewable and distributed energy, and also traditional); loads (residential, commercial, industrial users); accumulation systems (even if not always present) and an electric network (mainly in low voltage) that connects the various elements of them and with the medium voltage Macro Grid. 


    These networks are locally governed and can operate independently in "electric island" or in combination with the main grid of the area - Macro Grid.


    The European electricity system as a whole consists of:
